Is this more to do with an understanding of the definition of "evolution"? My (very little) understanding is that we did have primates as our ancestors but genetic mutation resulted in a number of different species streams. Neanderthal man was one and I gather it didn't work out but sometimes I wonder.
Apes exist today as does mankind and both procreate as separate species.
