I use MS Account and although I have used Windows 10 as my main (and only if not counting the virtual machines) OS since 1st of October I have not seen a single Bing image of the day. Absolutely not a single one. In fact, I do not know how to get one even if I wanted?

And, I repeat: searching your PC, use Explorer. Searching the web, do as you do with Seven and use a browser!

Wolfgang, with all due respect, please tell me an example of this "Cloud OS". In which way is a Windows 10 user who sign in with a local account and does not use any cloud storage or other services connected to the cloud? In which way is his / her Windows "towards the cloud"? Really, seriously, I would like to know.

I know that's what discussed here, that's why I am trying to correct some common misunderstood beliefs. Really, there's nothing "cloud" in Windows 10 except when the user willingly, out of his / her own will and initiative allows it.

For other readers of this thread, please notice this: Cloud services are there only if you want them and decide to use them. You have right to decide. If you don't want it, there's nothing even remotely "cloud" in the Windows 10.

Here's a complete check list for "cloud phobic" users, instructions on how to use a 100% cloud free Windows 10:

1. Sign in with a local account
2. Use desktop software and apps instead of Modern apps
3. Do not sign up for any cloud service like GoogleDrive, Dropbox, OneDrive etc.

Sorry to disappoint you, the check list really is so short.

Kari, this is all good stuff. But I bet you that 90% of the future users of W10 are going to follow the MS direction like lemmings. They won't know the difference between MS account and local account and a whole array of things like my example of the device encryption will happen without the user having a say in it. And in a few years that will be the only way to work with Windows and only the smartest users will be able to control their systems.

You really don't have to type in the cortana box to see the other crap.
But typing shows more web crap.

Call it b-s or what ever it makes zero difference to me = my world.

Yesterday we had a general meeting of my computer club with about 200 (of 850) members attending. The main subject of discussion was safety on the web.

I suggested to use a virtual Linux system for web browsing. I offered to setup a Mint system for them. All they had to do is to install VMware Player, take my Mint folder and attach it to their Player - which I would show them how to do plus a little introduction to Mint.

That idea was rejected as far too complicated for the members in part because Mint would not have the IE and they would not know how to browse the web with Chrome or Firefox.

Now you go and explain to these Windows users the difference between a local account and a MS account and what the implications are.

The funny thing is how this all reminds me of the discussion here on Seven Forums back in 2009 when XP users were complaining "why did MS change this and that!", and the same repeated when those who had complained about Seven and changes in it compared to XP but who had moved to Seven anyway just copy & pasted their old posts to start complaining about the changes Windows 8 brought.

Complain about Seven "I do not like Seven, I'll stay in XP!", then move to Seven and complain "I do not like Eight, I'll stay in Seven", and...

Seems I have to write a similar one about how not to use cloud and use 10 exactly as Seven :).

I subscribe to Office 365 for Business which I pay for three users (yes, I need three), each having 1 TB of OneDrive. I also subscribe to Office 365 Home which includes 5 user licenses, each again with 1 TB OneDrive, so I have total of 8 TB of OneDrive at my disposal. The reason I have both services (365 Business and Home) is that as the 3 TB OneDrive I had in Office f. B. was not enough and I needed more space, adding one user to that subscription costs more than the Office 365 Home with 5 users, so instead of paying more to get 1 TB more OneDrive I decided to pay less and get 5 TB :).

Thanks to fast connection, both up and down, all my ISO images, movies, videos, music and so on is in the cloud. I access it from home, on the road from a laptop, tablet or Windows Phone. I edit my Excel sheets and Word documents on a train or hotel using a laptop and back home continue where I left them from my desktop.

I am used to be called an MS and Windows fan boy and I have nothing against it. If you allow an angry old man talk about his feelings, I have to say this: I am really in love with Windows 10 and it's possibilities, I am really in love with my 8 TB cloud storage which is possible thanks to Microsoft's beautiful, practical and effortless to use online services.

Oh I did not know that. Never seen a Bing image of the day on my Windows 10 systems.

To me Cloud computing is one stop shopping for hackers. It even gets better when one syncs the Cloud to everything they own in their computing life.

It depends how the cloud is used. With proper encryption and other security measures, data in cloud storage can be as safe as any data stored on a computer that has access to the internet and has proper AV and anti-malware protection. The cloud service ones uses also matters. I wouldn't trust free cloud storage any further than I could spit upwind in a stiff breeze same as not all paid cloud services are safe. One has to shop around. Cloud storage is a valuable tool but one shouldn't rely on it solely, same as one shouldn't rely on a single HDD to be the sole repository of data.

Please, I really would know what search issues? I say this third time now in the last half an hour: Use the Explorer search for local searches and a browser for web searches. Problem solved.

I admit the Explorer search needs one extra mouse click but that's all. Click This PC instead of search, click search field and type your search criteria.
