I don't think we can make a 'one fits all' recommendation.

I think that statement hit the nail on the head.

Even a dumb bunny like me will make a decision on what W-10 brings to the table that I want or think I need.
Reading this forum and the Ten Fourm and trying W-10 will help me to make that decision.
I have pretty well nail down the things I don't need or like about W-10 now I'm hoping to find all the things I like about W=10.

One thing I'm positive about.
I will not give up a W-7 COA for a free W-10.
I know Microsoft says that I can go back to W-7 and not loose my COA key but I'm not trusting the new Microsoft Non-Genuine (counterfeit) company.

So if I do choose to add W-10 to one of my choices for a operating system their will have to be a way I can buy or use it without risking one of my W-7 COA keys.

Don't give up on W-10 it's still in the kitchen and has not been put on the table as a finished meal for all those that are hungry.
We all are just cooks in the kitchen tasting W-10 before it's served to the dinner guest.
The head chief is Microsoft and just might have some new ideas that many of us just might like.

P/S:
I do notice (this is my opinion) that the post about W-10 and W-7 are more of a discussion.
Compared to W-8 that was more of a bare knuckle brawl.
So things are getting better.

I think there is another problem with Microsoft letting the OEMs lock the OS so the users cannot change the OS but use the current ones with bloated applications.

Exactly. UEFI is different but, overall, it is better than the older BIOS. I hadn't had much experience messing around in BIOS before I built my first rig, which has a UEFI MOBO, so I didn't have any old habits to unlearn. That made learning how to use it much easier for me (especially since I don't OC). For me, it was just a matter of reading the manual.

Over all UEFI bios install of Windows 7 went quite smooth. Just had to do a little reading and tinkering after the install to get things the way I want them.

But as Lady Fitzgerald has pointed out those of us that tinker in the bois settings because we over clock had to learn some new things. It just took a little homework and trial and error.
For a new tinkerer it might of went a little easier because they didn't have to unlearn any thing.

I would suggest to all new readers of this forum to read gregrocker tutorials before doing a install. It will make things easier for you. Take your time the tutorials have a lot of information in them.

You could also become a member of this forum and have the ability of posting question so members of this forum can give guidance.

No prizes for guessing why MS arranged it this way.
They are trying to trick people into signing up to the "Cloud" when they don't need to.

It's even worse than the download sites that have a giant download button (which is full of crapware or entirely unrelated to the software you are trying to download) and the real download is a tiny link hidden somewhere else on the same page.

My VMs seem to run better in Linux Mint (using VMware Player) than in W7.

I don't know, how difficult is it really? Task: create a local account to sign in to Windows. Choice to make: Either select Sign in to your MS Account, or select Create a new account.

Difficult to choose? In my opinion using common sense and logics is if not necessary but at least recommended.

Yep I believe it's just the wording,
I reinstalled win-8 a month or so ago and it was pretty straight forward Microsoft account and next to it was Local account.

Since you seem to have mastered UEFI, can you then tell me how to install a persistent Linux distro on a flash drive that boots in UEFI. Here is the way I do it on a MBR drive.
