Private Messaging Permissions Help

I'm still kinda new here, and there's no place that I found to post asking for help with this site, if I'm in the wrong place, can an admin please put me in the right place? Anywho, I can't find any sort of inbox area, where I can see my sent, received, drafts, anything, the only thing I found is in the quick links to "Send PM", but when I click it, in hopes it would link me to my inbox, it says I don't have sufficient permissions. I understand that because I'm a new user, you'd want me to make posts before private messaging as this takes away the possibility of spam bots spamming random members inboxes, but I also don't see any introductory area or anything where it tell me what I need to unlock certain permissions.

So could someone give me a run down? I haven't explored other things like my avatar, signature and other such things, but can I have a list of prerequisites I'll need to be able to do certain things? Like how many posts I need to be able to use the PM service and things like that. Thank you

As an anti spam measure, new members do not get PM facilities.

Actually Joan that's not the case, if we publicize the criteria for getting passed the new member PM spam block then the spammers would just do what needed to meet the criteria and the measure would be pointless.

Oops! Sorry John didn't realise, just thought if he read the rules it would tell him what he can and can't do in the forum, I'd read the post he'd made about introducing himself here and needed help with using the forum.

I'm curious, since I never had a mobile device that used text messaging...I keep seeing ads for various charities asking for donations, and they say text "Haiti for xxxxx". How does one do that, when he only has email?
