Windows 7: Building new computer Socket 775

Building new computer Socket 775

Got a free motherboard from a promotion by a local store. Its a Foxconn G31mxp-k. Its a new edition though.

I have a perfectly capable Corei7 build I currently use. I will not be stealing parts from this.

I also have a new Socket 478 build on a new biostar P4 board that has (2 x 1GB) DDR2 memory, but IDE Hard drives and DVD writers. It has a new coolermaster elite case (331) with a Corsair 650TX PSU.

I have an old ATI Wonder Pro ATI Tv tuner card.

I have lots of mice/keyboards and monitors.

I can get a Q9550 for $169+tax. (Or a E5300 for $59.95+tax. or etc...)

I don't really have a use for another computer, other than maybe for a PVR?

I only have $200~$250 to spend on this. What should I do? Should I sell the free board, and buy a video card for the Socket 478 build and just use it? Or hack it apart and build a newer system?

I have Windows Xp and an upgrade to Win 7 Pro also. I prefer win 7 pro, but the socket 478 is currently running Xp.

i'd strip out the 478 build, keep the case, drives, RAM, PSU..... stick in the 775 board, chuck in the E5300 for $60, sell the 478 parts on ebay, grab a GTS250 & you've got yourself a very decent back up rig for peanuts..

if you try to build a 3rd rig you'll have less cash to spread out, & as you say a 3rd rig has no immediate use...

that's what i'd do.....

Well, I don't want to do an HTPC. What else can I use the computer for? Maybe a Home Server?

Help building my first computer
So I think I am looking at the right parts, please tell me if I am wrong. I am more concerned about the ram and the power supply being compatible with the motherboard. Also how many watts should I get my power supply? <a href=" - Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W...

A little fun computer building
I was wondering about power supplies and SLI. First off, My power supply was 50 watts more than my last, but apparently wasn't SLI ready, so I have a single graphics card stuck to the board (Nvidia 460 single Gig). Hasn't done as well as I had hoped. So I'm thinking you have to buy power supplies...

Considering building a computer
This seemed like a good place to post. I was thinking about upgrading my current desktop (Dell XPS 8100) to sandy bridge and a few other things, but then I thought it would be more fun to build a custom computer. I have never done this, so I will ask noobish questions. I do a lot of video editing...
