Yeah, it's actually the name of their new parent company, they will stay Google though,

Does that mean we'd have to Alphabet it (search)? (i.e. as opposed to Google it)

Like it has been said,it's their new parent company.
Alphabet company is specifically for projects,for ex. research technology in health field.Basically when it was all under Google,one CEO,now Alphabet has it's own CEO and it's more flexible and faster and they can finish projects faster,they're not Google-dependent.
