I have asked before but cannot find the original post so my problem is -
I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone and I keep info I use all the time ie codes, appointment times etc in an app called memo now this has been transferred to the SD card thinking I could open the memo and copy the info/data direct to my laptop or desktop but am met with a barrage of things to do like install Kies etc etc ad nauseum and then use sync the device etc only to find I still cannot open anything but photos everything else is just an empty or folder filled with jibberish.
What I would lie to find out is why data cannot be accessed from the phone even though I have installed the Kies and done everything that has been suggested?? I am now thinking of just taking photos of the memo app when it is open because I have already lost the lot when the phone crashed once before and redoing the data is annoyingly time consuming and extremely tedious.
Any ideas please - oh have asked on the android forum with not much luck.
John are you trying to view your memos on the computer or transfer them to a new samsung phone? Memo is superseded by snotes I think so info will be scarce but do you have root on your phone? If you want to copy your notes as pics hold power and the home button at the same time it will take a clean screenshot for you.
Thanks for the reply and sorry for the late reply my mobile broadband went down last night.
I am trying to transfer the data from memo - which looks to be a standard app that S5 comes with - to my computer. I can save the SD micro card as a whole but cannot open up any of the files/folders in it except for the DCIM photos and music. Same thing happens when I oen the Android phone files themselves.
NB I thought the Beammemo would be the one I want but it is blank. Plus as I said I have installed Samsung's Kies and well might as well not bothered - it is pretty useless.
Yea I transferred my notes the old fashion way upgrading my iphone 4 to 5s
Select all and pasted in an email sent to myself and copy and pasted onto the darn thing
AT&T stopped migrating stuff = a-holes :/
Just memo mate I'll try that and Mike yep mate I have done that it is just opening the darn thing to copy paste the entries.
I don't know why Samsung has made it so hard. For the record messing around in Kies last night took me forever and I still ended up with nothing - it is being got rid of as soon as because I really don't see what it is supposed to do??
Edit: see pic for what I get for a search for the com.sec. stuff it doesn't matter if I search Computer as I know I have the old stuff saved the new card and even the phone.
You don't need Kies to get to your Samsung Galaxy S5. Uninstall it. Crap, and intrusive crap at that. Worthless if all you really want to do is be able to access your phone's folders using Windows Explorer (or Free Commander XE, etc.).
What you DO need is Samsung's USB driver for Windows, from their download site. Down in the Products -> Mobile, click on "cell phones". This will produce a popup window, and you then select from the Product dropdown to specify your phone carrier, and then you'll be prompted to select from the Model dropdown. For example, my own Samsung Galaxy S4 is SCH-I545 followed by a "color" and memory size code (mine is 32GB black mist). I don't know what the model is for the S5, but you need to know it to make the right selection here.
When you finish with your specifications, you then push the DOWNLOADS button and it will present you with two download links: one for the user manual for that phone carrier and phone model, and a second for the USB Driver for Windows. Download and install. This is all you need.
Now when you connect your phone to PC using the USB cable, it will connect and communicate to Windows Explorer. The initial connection might be as an "installer", but that's NOT WHAT YOU WANT. Swipe down on the notification status bar (at the top of the phone screen) and tap on the "USB connection settings" item, and then select "connect as MTP". This is now like a camera or printer, where the phone and card storage of your phone will appear in Windows Explorer (like in your screenshots).
You can (or should) then be able to simply explore the internal/external storage of the phone normally as you'd expect.
I do this all the time with my S4. NO KIES!!!
I happen to use Free Commander XE as my Windows Explorer replacement, and the phone appears under Computer. Expanding it shows card and phone, same as Windows Explorer shows.

Well, I don't know why the Samsung download page provides USB driver version 1.5.45.0, when there is a more current version 1.5.51.0 available. Don't know if there's really any important difference, but I always like to be using the latest version of anything.
This 1.5.51.0 is the one I've got installed and am using. Seems to be a universal download for all phones I would guess, since there's no carrier/model pre-selection required from Softpedia.

Ok Kies not installed and as far as I can remember never has been on this machine. That download I installed it with the same results as I was getting not details of folders etc I uninstalled it and went to install it again and got as far as the pic shows and I cannot enter the model number which is GM-9001.
So I am at a loss as to what to do next. I did try on the Linux machine this afternoon as I read that android stuff OS's are loosely based on the Unix systems but again no luck.
The second pic what I get opening the memo or what I think is the memo app - garbage.
I don't see "Galaxy Gear" in the list of cell phone providers, at least not here in the US with a US IP connection to my ISP. Perhaps that is a phone company in Australia.
Anyway, when I choose Verizon I can then find what I believe to be the model number for the Galaxy S5: SM-G900VZKAVZW. But that still leads to the same 1.5.45.0 download, so I'm pretty certain it is really just one common USB driver that works with Windows and the recent family of Samsung Galaxy phones.
Anyway, if you saw my second post, I wanted you to disregard the older 1.5.45.0 download from the Samsung site, and instead grab the newer 1.5.51.0 download from other sites... specifically the 1.5.51.0 download offered from Softpedia. That's the one I'm using on my Windows machines to talk to my Galaxy S4.
Please download that 1.5.51.0 file and install it. That's what you should try.

Hi,
Which in your expert opinion is the best high end Android phone. Xperia Z2, Samsung Galaxy S5 or LG G3?
My main priorities are one which can run Sygic maps and support Skype video.
Thanks.
