    The Next Five-Year Plan

It starts in January of 2020 with the end of Microsoft support, callously cut-off, ruthless business model. Good, I like it that way. No hard feelings at all, just winners and losers in the end.

Can this renegade era for recalcitrant Windows 7 users lead to a bridge with Linux? We know not to turn to Microsoft! We are not the mercenaries who will blindly 'follow the money' regardless of who has it, or can control it. The only innocent left in the computer game, is and has been for forty years, is UNIX and Linux.
We can thank AT&T for creating UNIX, and then for giving away the complete specification for a true OS to the world. Compromise has lead us to where we are now. The last hopes of Digital Equipment Corporation, VMS and the AXP, where bungled by Microsoft and Intel. Intel was busted as a blatant, and bungling, thief. As for Microsoft, well they did all that they could under limited circumstances, and it is over. Can we help to empower the Linux community during these five years of betrayal to the mother company? There will no quarter shown for us when 2025 arrives. Don't get mad -- Get ready.

If you granted me the indulgence of just reading my opening remarks, then I am already in your debt.

I did have a concern about that appendage, and I thank you for pointing it out. I stand corrected, but the post must stand as is. I cannot retract a statement I have made in the public forum and still call myself above some crawling life form.

To address each of you gentlemen, let me say this to z3r010. I do not believe in 'free' (economics). And this to Paul Black, repetitions are the simplest of nature's patterns.

Now we know why Win10 was free. And enough people are being charged for new copies to make up for the free ones. I had XP on my 2 machines, couldn't upgrade.

You know the joke about a camel being an animal designed by a committee?

I have no problem. Keeping 7 on all my machines.

D'accord, Ro@Win7! (What a shame about the bombers' management in the ALCS. Only umpires may invoke the rain-delay rule.)

You're not going to see big Linux displays and posters in the computer stores or ads on TV. Most Windows users have never heard of it. It's unfortunate :-( We can promote it online and through our PC user groups.

I cannot disagree. I heard some remark on the news about MS wanting desperately to control Linux-world, and the top Linux people were not concerned. The likes of DJ Delorie cannot be bought, and the future seems to be the hands of this 1% club. We can join with them and bring users with open minds, and a bitter taste in their mouths, as we learn about this brave new world they are creating, and all of it is free by mandate! I do have a Debian-laptop and even Firefox is not allowed to use either its logo (fox over globe) or its name as they are trade-marked! So, it is called 'IceWeasal' in pristine fashion. Open software seems impossible to a MS-based mindset. Skype would have been a world-wide revolution in user telecommunication, but when 8 devoted and talented programmers are offered 8 Billion Dollars ... they cannot refuse a 'rags to riches overnight transform', and so Skype was lost to us all.
