Not counting the few times we got to use laptops with some weird regional Linux distro on them, my first OS was Windows XP Home, 32 bit.
I recall my sister saying she would've installed Vista or 7 on my new laptop, but she thought XP Home would be more appropriate for a child. And she was probably right, Windows XP had the perfect interface for a child just getting to use computers for the first time, but I must say, I always wanted to get Windows 7!
But back then I didn't have any way to backup my files, nor was I brave enough to install an OS on my real computer (I had only ever done it on VM's with Windows 98 so far, and I probably had no idea what I was doing anyways!)
Nowadays I do use Windows 7, mainly, but I also have a Windows XP installation just for old times' sake :P
My first computer was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum+ running Sinclair BASIC and the first OS which I used was MSDOS (not sure which version) but it was on a 386 with 5 1/4 disks
I too used the Sinclair ZX81 (it was a kit) opted in for the extra 1k memory (2K total). Think it is still in the attic
I didn't get my very first computer until August 1997 when I was almost 52 years old.
It was a HP Pavilion 8160 with an Intel Pentium 233 MHz processor and 32 MB(16 MB x 2) of EDO RAM and a 6.4 GB IDE hard drive and Windows 95 OSR2.
Computers and their accessories were very expensive in those days.
