Windows Vista not working on Surface Pro 1

    Hi,

I am trying to install Windows Vista on my Surface Pro 1. I installed it similarly to the way I installed Windows 7 shown here:
How to install Windows 7 on a Surface Pro 1 - Windows 7 Forums (sevenforums.com)
However, I installed it in a VM first with the files on another partition, then force installed Intel HD 4000 Graphics drivers, and USB 3.0 drivers. When I deleted the Windows 7 partition, and booted it on my Surface Pro 1 with the FlashBootPro EFI files, it booted successfully into Vista (it played the startup sound), but it hung at a black screen, and I am unable to see the screen. I have even tried connecting it to an external monitor, and still nothing happened.

I tried that. I got a BSOD (though I wasn't able to read what it said but could tell it was a BSOD), then it rebooted, gave me the "Windows did not shut down successfully" screen, then it still hangs at a black screen, but it does boot as I still hear the Vista startup sound.

Just a quick suggestion (If all else fails), you could try install Windows XP, then upgrade to Vista.

If Vista UEFI Class 3 won't work, then XP x64 with Vista UEFI files probably won't work either. And I would be installing XP x64, so I wouldn't be able to upgrade from Vista (officially at least, there is a workaround), but still it would probably give me the same error.

Just tried 1.24. It booted but doesn't get to login screen (I can tell by whether I hear the startup sound or not).

I was able to fix the problem. I tried a clean install of Server 2008 and it worked, all I needed to do was enable Narrator and change resolution. The screen then worked. I will be trying the same thing with regular Vista, which I expect to work. I plan to post a guide on how to install Vista on the Surface Pro 1, then move on to installing XP and maybe ReactOS if I can get XP working.
