Merciful NY store owner gets thank you note

SHIRLEY, N.Y. — A Long Island convenience store owner who showed mercy to a would-be robber says he’s received an apology note and $50 in the mail.

The unsigned note said it was from the man who tried to rob Mohammad Sohail. It said the would-be robber has a new job, a new child, and is staying out of trouble.

Sohail is saving the $50 for charity.

The bat-wielding man tearfully told Sohail in May that he was trying to feed his family. The rifle-toting businessman gave him $40 and bread, and made him promise never to rob again.

The man disappeared when Sohail went to get milk for the family.

Looks like everything turned for the better! I am glad the robber found repentance in the form of a child that turned his life around...

Actually the saddiest part of the story is the fact that some people have to go to these extremes to take care of their families. These are very tough times for many folks...it really changes one's perspective when one has to worry about where their next meal is going to come from.

I read in the paper awhile back where this guy was robbed on veterans day, and when the robbers found out he was a veteran, they returned the wallet with everything in it.
