What about an IM connection invite for real time troubleshooting

Nice idea - I suppose it's a matter of logistics. One for the Administrators

Not the same thing, granted, but we do have this:

    Hello Metalmania,

Nice idea indeed, but we would prefer to keep everything posted in the forums instead. This way everyone could contribute ideas and to be able to see and be helped by any solutions found in the thread.

We do have a Personal Message (PM) feature that would be similiar though. It's good for chatting with another member. :)

    I agree Brink.
Over the years this is how I have learned from the problems of others. In turn, I have helped others. If it ain't broke don't fix it!

IM is simply too intrusive for troubleshooting.

Patience is a virtue which reaps better results anyway

    +1.

I sometimes get PM's asking help. Instead of answering in another PM, I'll post my answer, or if the member has still not posted this issue, I'll ask him/her to do that, and post my answer there.

This way the issue, and possible fix or solution is there for other members to see.

I agree in whole, but sometimes there is a pressing issue that could use real time help, but I guess that's what a paid customer service rep would be for.

The main point is that this is a help forum. If we help people over IM or PM, then no one else gets to see the solution and process, making it only helpful for one user.
If it is posted online, anyone can find it through searching, and it can help hundreds.

It is also much easier for us who are helping.

I do like the idea of a suggestion box though, but we can just use PM to admin, chillout room, etc.
