I can't imagine how it feels for some of you... never to have known life before there were home computers which could connect to the internet, mobile phones, skype and messenger...

Have never forgotten my first cellular phone, back in 1989... it was an 8 watt unit, with a curly corded handset sitting on a 2Kg battery and ESN pack, with a rubber duck aeriel...

A Side-Effect of being a child of the 20th century...

I would have relished in the great outdoors...if Nintendo hadn't invented the NES and the SNES while also making masterpieces such as The Legend of Zelda or Chrono Trigger...

The outside was just...not as fun

i ask myself would we go back to the psedo p2p internet that Microsoft tried to create?
the internet is not as weak as you think though but yes certain would have the ability to isolate other nations from the net essentially severing them from the net (this has actually happened DDoS attack boots Kyrgyzstan from net ? The Register)
while their internal network works they wouldnt be able to get to the outside world...
to me a much more frighting thing would be a root DNS takeovers or DDOS and DOS since this can be catastrophic for everyone (and not just a country)...
this would still be incredibly hard but not impossible...

What did i do before computers and then the internet??

CB radio. Guess i could pick up that hobby again. Still got 4 units in the shed and a big antenna at the back of it. I know the wife would hate it as i used to build my own specialised antenna's, with the back yard full of poles and stuff.

Re: BBS, that was great in it's day. I remember downloading a file called "Kermit". Fitted on a 360kb, 5 1/4" floppy and took 30 minutes.
Thought it was a game. How wrong i was, lol.
