Mobile Web and WAP: Is there a difference?

Hi all!

Sorry if this is a dumb question. I got a new Nokia 5530 the other day. I'm not the type of guy who has to have the latest cutting edge phone, so a lot of it's features are new to me.

So I got all sorts of stuff set up, e-mail through my messages. Connected to my home internet and so on...

Tried to use the phone in work to browse the net as using my work service results in most pages being blocked.

Anyway, when I try to connect I'm given a few different options, Search for WLAN which would be my home internet or any Wi-Fi. Internet which says "O2 Mobile Web" or WAP Service "O2 WAP GPRS".

The guy from O2 tells me that mobile web is just WAP. If so then why does the phone two sets of settings? One for WAP and another for O2 Mobile Web.

I presume there must be a difference since I can't sync my Live Mail to the phone unless connected by Wi-Fi, which seems to be a bit of a useless feature if you aren't at home or near a hotspot.

Thought I'd ask here in case any of you clued up tech minded people could sort me out.
