Is there a doctor in the house? (NOT for the squeemish)

LOL, I hesitate to post this... but on 22 December I had a knee operation (one I've had previously, so I knew - or at least I thought I knew - what to expect...) to repair a torn cartilege... anyway, the damned leg is looking like I've been in a fight with a juganaut... and come second...

I realise I ain't gonna win Miss World with this photo parade, and I'm sorry if it puts you off your supper... but does anyone know whether this is just bruising, and if it's normal (never had it last time!) or whether I'm going down with thrombosis or blood poisoning...

It's not gonna let me sleep very easily... but I can't seem to get to speak to a real doctor here at this time of night over the holiday period, and I can't drive myself to the nearest hospital with a 24h emergency department because of the injury...

Will whack down some Naproxen, and I have some oxytetracycline and metronidazol anti-biotics kicking around which I can also neck, just in case, but I feel fine apart from the discomfort in the leg... just don't know enough to guess whether or not I should seek help...

I would recommend to play it safe and have it looked at as soon as possible. You wouldn't want any blood clots to start forming, or infection to set in.

Do you have a friend that you can call to help get you off to the hospital to have it looked at, or a emergency number from the doctor to see what they think?

I get some pretty gnarly mtb injuries, and bruises also just cause I'm clumsy and IMPATIENT so I'm always running into edges and corners of doors and walls trying to take the shortest rte possible--and pushing myself through the masses at stores...

...but, dude, that would probably freak me out even,

like everyone said---have it checked out.

Cheers, I'll try phoning the hospital again, but I expect they've probably got their hands full with Xmas drunks and turkey knife bodged hand carving cases...

tell the hospital you suspect infection and they will look at your leg maybe prescribing some antibiotics!

Again, I am no doc but grew up in a doctors household so I do have some fundamentals in medicine

Do not hesitate to get to a hospital, if it a blood clot and it moves up to your lungs or heart you are in a deadly condition. That said all the operations I have ever had have also resulted in sever bruising Especially the ones I had on my eyelids last year looked like I had gone a few rounds with a boxer

    Better safe then sorry man
    HOSPITAL

    Regards

Been to the accident & emergency department and waited half the night, eventually saw a doctor who barely looked old enough to have left school, and they took some blood and asked a handful of stupid questions, and one and a half hours later they pronounced it to merely be extensive bruising - and sent me home...

They reckoned NHS Direct should have been able to tell me the same over the phone, which was kinda hard to believe when they were the very people who were telling me it was anything from septacemia to MRSA, to meningitis... but defo' not bruising LOL!

When it turns yellow and green I'll post another photo...

    Sounds about right

Diagnosis by phone? What a stupid bloody idea.

Just make sure you keep an eye on the surgery site itself for any signs of infection (red and inflamed, discharge etc)

The bruising itself looks normal in that shot though.
