We had a lively discussion back a bit in The Gurus Lounge about this and came to the conclusion that as much as we wish, not even a majority of the new users are going to fill out the specs unless they are pounded over the head...we concluded that its a lot less stressful for all concerned to do as much as we can with what we have..
I appreciate it that you guys have been talking about it but you may need to look at it as a pro-active approach in helping to solve their computer problems.

A few questions or suggestions up front for new users could eliminate hundreds or even thousands of additional messages back and forth.

Do you have a laptop or a desktop system?
How much memory does your computer have?
Was your install an upgrade or a full clean install?
    Can you spell cat?

I still would like to see a spell chickerrrrr.
Not to mention asking about a 16-bit or 48-bit installation...

Why don't manufacturers properly list their specs? I've never seen detailed motherboard, chipset, PSU or RAM info. That's why building is always better. Even worse, why does no one know the importance of drivers and avoiding useless software? Ohhh I won - just have to click here. Wait that's an interesting popup (groans come out of speakers).
