Anybody got a copy of Windows 3.0 (yes 3.0)

    Hi guys
just to go Mad I've got virtual Machines running EVERY (REAL) version of windows from 3.1 unti the latest Windows 7, including duds like Windows Millenium.

Windows 3.0 was the first "Real" version of Windows (there were a few half baked efforts like Windows/286 which never worked.

The best BY far were Windows 3.11 (Windows for Workgroups)
    Windows 95
Windows 2000 (probably STILL the best for the time)
Windows 2003 server (although a dog to get this to run sensibly as a workstation -- if you did it manage it --stable as a rock

Windows 2008 server (also looks Very good indeed but haven't tested this out sufficiently.

The real Dogs were -- Windows Millenium (a real piece of dog poo) , the early build of Windows 98 -- this was Microsofts first effort at getting away from using Ms-Dos as the underlying OS and to build Windows from the ground up and the absolutely DREADFUL both from a maintenance and a user point of view - Windows NT -- even to get the simplest app to work on this took armies of IT support staff -- why on earth corporations loved this server when much better Linux systems were around I will never know.

The only OS I'm missing is Windows 3.0 -- I'm not actually doing anything with them -- I suppose I'm just collecting Windows releases like people collect Stamps or Coins.

"You don't have to be Mad to Post here -- but it helps".

    Cheers

Ill keep and eye out for 3.0 but if memory serves me right it was a b***h to get hold of the first time. Perhaps we should set a beta ftp up lol. Watercolour anyone lol

    @jimbo45

Sadly I only have 1.01, 2.01 and 3.11. All the abandonware sites seam to have closed recently.

There is however a torrent on a famous nautical site (unverified by me) threatening to contain ...

    Microsoft Windows 3.0
    Microsoft Windows 3.0a
Microsoft Windows 3.0 with Multimedia Extensions
    Microsoft Windows 3.1
    Microsoft Windows 3.11
    Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.1
    Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11
Microsoft Windows 3.1 Beta 1 (codename "Janus")
Microsoft Windows 3.1 Release Candidate (codename "Janus")
Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 Beta 2 (codename "Sparta")

Would be happy to PM you the link?

Dude your one slick man, nice one thanks for the advice. Now need to find Whister, Georgia, Memphis and LH. if anyone is interested i own a game server company and am sure i could find a little room on there to host all these files so we could FTP and share the love.
Let me know what you think

I was surprized to still see the original floppies in working order after all these years when going to install 3.1 on a test drive.

Once I get 95 and 98 on I'll have to update my sig I guess.

Ironically amusing to get these things running virtually on a machine with 6gigs of ram and a 1TB hard drive.

In between 98se and ME, you'll remember, was the ill fated Neptune which I have running on a vintage? Compaq laptop the size and weight of a concrete block.

Running with it is Office 97 and Photoshop 6.0 ... and Eset Nod32 for 95/98/ME still updates with the help of the nsane Fix.

    Sad git that I am.
