From what I've always heard, Windows 7 is in fact NT 7.0 but it reports itself as 6.1 so it doesn't break compatibility with existing applications. Whether that's true or not, I can't say, but it'll probably be debated until 7 reaches its EOL.
nah.. it's vista service pack 3, renamed windows 7 so the microsaur could package it and sell it for $200 a copy instead of offering it for free as an update..
