I agree, no hate. These forums are for discussion. But if your asking for advice or a solution to a problem, it would make sense to have it in a form that is clear to the people who are going to be trying to help you. If ur texting your friends, I don't care if your using hieroglyphs. As JG has pointed out, each generation has it's own *code*. My generation was no different. If you use it when your seeking answers, you limit yourself to getting those answers from the people who do understand your code and they might not have the best answers. I can't give an answer if I don't know the question. Funny thing is I run into posts all the time with people apologizing for their english, not their first language, when I can understand them much better than some of the youngsters. Use it if you wish, but remember some of us with 20+ years of computer experience are not going to understand the question.

I will say that being on the forums, I am getting better at deciphering.

I gave up long ago and just started using US spelling.
I don't even get a choice if I select Icelandic keyboard -- I then only get US English.

Still its better than posts written totally in "Text-ese".

Sometimes you need to USE a language be it English, German or anything Else properly to convey decent sense of meaning and feeling.

If I see something start like this "How R U 2day" I'll just move on -- the chances are that it will have been written by some sooper-dooper 15 year old who'd have a problem passing even the most basic School leaving certificate in the poorest 3rd world country. (actually some of THEIR education is quite good when you can finally get to a school).

In any case I don't really see the point of texting anyway -- a telephone is for SPEAKING to people. Why should I have to text them for deity's sake.

Unless modern human evolution is mutating so that the Vocal Chords are atrophying rapidly it's always easier to SAY what you want rather than thumb your way on rediculuous little keyboards with indecipherable abbreviations.

There's nothing wrong with the Human voice when used properly -- just listen to the dulcent tones of Richard Burton etc etc.

I suppose they've all been "duped" by one of the mobile providers commercials : "The Devil Makes Work for Idle Thumbs".

I actually never meant that I would use Twitter as an easier and faster way to get answers on questions regarding Windows 7. I was just curious if anyone here on Sevenforums was using Twitter, and if so, I would have another friendly face on my list. That's pretty much it. But I highly doubt that if anyone here on the forums (except me) was using Twitter, they wouldn't post it here now anyway.

But I do agree with you guys, that the way some people talk on Twitter and on a lot of other chat services is absurd. But since a lot of the users that I'm following on Twitter are users like - NASA, PlanetQuest, Hubble PAO, Marsrovers, NASAKepler and so on, they do use their language the way you expect them to.

I hope you guys give it a chance. I must say that I'm quite fond of it. :)

    Hey there,

Thanks for that link, I will most certainly find it useful. Not quite what I asked for, since I were after personal twitter users, but thanks for that link anyway. Looks really interesting, thanks!

    Hello Gary,

What does annoy me more than the use of "text speak" by users, by choice, is the fact that my spell checker, in Firefox, My British English spell checker , actually corrects my spelling of "colour" with "color" and others too

Now I know the UK and US are " two nations separated by a common language " but why won't my spellchecker speak English
It *is* strange that your Fx won't do it- for a check, though, try installing the en-GB dictionaries from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:3

I easily understand it, but I have to *wholeheartedly* agree with you - if you want help, use English, not txtspeak or HackerSpeak or ROT13 or anything stupid like that.

I've been trying to hunt down a twitterpost that is up to date here on windows 7 forums, but I can't find any. So here it goes!

Post your twitter here! Always fun with some new people to follow. Especially people that have small things in common, like windows 7. :)

    Let's stay connected! - Twitter / JohanTheSwede

just followed you up on Twitter @countzeero

to all the doubters - of course there are lolkiddies on twitter but you don´t have to follow or even read what they have to say, I use Twitter constantly as a real time source of useful, entertaining or inspiring stuff for my daily work as a freelancer, saves me ploughing through dreary blogs and boring RSS feeds. I have gained and learned more from using Twitter in the last two months than I did in the last year...

surprised really that "geeks" who install and run Beta OS´s aren´t open minded enough for a phenomenon like twitter, a bit sad really, dontcha think?
