    Groundhog Day

Today, Feb 2, is Groundhog Day. I am going to guess this is only an American Day so I will explain the concept. If the Groundhog comes out of his hole and sees his shadow, it scares him and he goes back underground and this means we will have winter for six more weeks. Coversely, if he does not see his shadow, it means we will have an early spring. == Now on to my question for those of you who have a grasp of this concept. -- It seems backwards to me. If the groundhog sees his shadow, it is a nice day due to the sun being out. This should mean we will have an early spring. === Does anyone care to enlighten me on this?

If he can see his shadow, it means the sun is at his back. That also means that someone could be looking through their rifle scope right at him, and he is unable to see the shooter because the sun would be in his eyes.

So naturally, he does the logical thing and hides.
