What if Microsoft released it's source code to GPL

Just what it says... what if microsoft turned all it's source code loose to the general public license and let all the hackers try to come up with something better. Make it a contest, with the winning group replacing all the people at microsoft who had a say in deciding to release vista to the manufacturers.
