EarthLink vs. AT&T vs. RoadRunner/TimeWarner

For those of you living in Southern California, who is your internet provider?

I'll be in the market for a new ISP in a couple of days but am doing some research. My monthly price range = $40 no more than $50. I'm currently looking at EarthLink Cable, AT&T DSL, and TimeWarner/RoadRunner Cable.

I guess this is an old question but its been a couple of years. tw-Roadrunner rents cable modem for 3 bucks/month - What device can I buy that will do a good job of this so I don't pay rent forever, if any??? and does it make sense, in the final analysis?
