AVG Posts Record Growth,Surpasses More Than 110 Million

" AVG Technologies, the world's leading provider of free Internet security solutions, today announced another record year of record revenue, profit and customer growth. As of December, 2009, AVG's user base surpassed the 110 million user milestone. In the wake of these strong results, AVG has officially named current CEO, J.R. Smith, whose leadership has been responsible for driving the last three years of strong performance and growth, to the permanent position in leading the company to its next phase of growth as it pursues a public offering.

"The board initially believed that the market would place a higher value on a CEO who had experience taking companies through public offerings, and, as such, we undertook the task of a search for that person and interviewed hundreds of candidates for the role," said Dale Fuller, Chairman of the AVG Board of Directors. "After AVG's banner results again in 2009, it became overwhelmingly clear that J.R.'s vision, drive for success and ability to execute are far more valuable to the company, and we need his leadership to take us to the next step and beyond."

Very interesting....and also disturbing. I've fixed numerous computers that had AVG bogging them down.

Many anti-viruses "bogg" computers down. Its mostly not the fact that its AVG, but the fact that its an anti-virus.

It's been pretty popular in Forums to bash AVG for about the last year since they had issues with the original release of Version 8.....

They have since fixed the issue...continued to upgrade the product and still offer it FREE to millions of Users...

Frankly i'm tired of the bashing. I installed it on my latest Clean build of Win 7 and couldn't be more pleased.

    patio.

I heard that AVG was going to be a paid subscription only come June of this year. My buddy has AVG and he got a pop up telling him this and still gets it Evey now and then. Any truth to this. I myself use MSE.

AVG has been an unfair target,IMHO, for some time - akin to the bashing of IE.
I have used AVG paid Version successfully for many years on two computers, with never a problem.

If this article is taken at face value AVG must be doing something right.
[Disclaimer - I am not employed by AVG.]

Like Norton was the big bashing, and still is even though their current product is very good.

That said, I'll stick with MSE for now.
