Is Google beginning to fail as Search Engine

    Hi all
It seems to me that Google is beginning to slip as a decent Search Engine -- not so much because of Google itself but because of the way sites are cheating into getting themselves listed.

What seems to be happenning more and more is that you enter a query for XXXXXX

Then a page comes up with XXXX entered into a SEARCH BOX on another web site which seems to have info on all sorts of stuff (Usually Update your Drivers or something like that) and nothing about the feature or product you wanted.

I hope that google updates its algorithms soon to stop web sites "cheating" -- otherwise I think we might begin to see much more emergence of RELIABLE private paid for by private subscription search engines.

Google is still on the whole OK but I hope that it remains a decent FREE source of info rather than becoming almost impossible to use because of the sheer amount of useless data you have to get rid of --even when you phrase your query OK.

    Cheers

I don't think they'll fail as a search engine, it's just to be adsense & advertising revolving around it that makes the sites cheat. I mean, theres so much "Money Making Google Kits" that you see online that pays you per clicks...so I agree with you, I hope they do update their algorithms.

I think you are right JIMBO, the situation is getting worse with the sites that cheat and get themselves listed and there are people who get paid on the basis of how many clicks were done on the weblink too...
That's really bad dude, i mean how can google be so Lazy about this

    Hi there
I'm sure if Google don't get their act together then the MS + Yahoo tie up will kick in.

Google is still fine but IMO rapidly losing it in some areas -- maybe they should not spend so much time on devloping things like Google Earth / Google maps (although I LOVE those) and get back to getting their CORE development correct and upgrading their algorithms to catch out some of the "cheating" websites.

Companies like IBM etc and maybe even the mighty MS itself show that no matter how big a company is they can and DO get supplanted by other companies once they lose sight of their CORE business or fail to keep on top of it and embrace newer technology which can obsolete some of the previous offerings -- for example IBM was essentially the INVENTOR of the PC and certainly had a GREAT pedigree in the mainframe era -- now it's just a Bog standard IT contract and service supplier company - and often not even a very good one at that.

    Cheers

really google is starting to see some competition in the search market but they will be fine for awhile. however they do need a refresh to stay on top of things. personally i'd like to see another site use a coverflow format like what searchme ip for sale used before they went offline. had that site of actually had decent search algorithims and better marketing it could have been a contender.

My benchmark for a good search engine is one that can get me the best meat lovers pizza in under thirty minutes.

As no search engine has successfully completed this task, I'm still skeptical of the whole "search" thing.
