    There was a referendum in WA when they trialled it but it was defeated.

    There was a referendum in WA when they trialled it but it was defeated.

    They are enlightened in WA. Not so the Eastern States IMO.
    [To the best of my knowledge there has been no referendum in NSW, Vic, ACT, SA or Tas.]
    [BTW. Am currently in Victoria.]

    I was confused by a temporary case of dyslexia. I misread your post and only now noticed that you were saying there was no referendum in eastern states (which is exactly right) Please forgive any unusual behaviour I display whilst adjusting to the time change...
