@Ted & John: Thanks for warning. Does not happen so often, it's just that yesterday I wanted sleep so desperately I was pissed off when the barbs didn't help.
Kari, it is not my specialty and I am fortunate I never had insomnia like yours, but reading that I wonder: have you spoken to your doctor about an anxiolytic (which is not a barbiturate, since they are also a kind of anxiolytic), or antidepressant medication?

You seem to be in a cycle of being anxious about sleeping, not sleeping, getting more anxious and nervous about it hence really not being able to sleep.

I am worried about you buddy... the combination you are using is dangerous. Just make really sure the amount you are taking, since it impairs judgement and you might take a wrong / high dose without even realizing.

    Be careful

    Thanks for your concern, Wally.

I've tried almost every possible medicine. This has been going on about 4-5 years now. It goes in cycles, every 10 to 12 days my body can not cope anymore and I'll sleep one or two night s really OK, about 10 hours. Then it starts again.

I go to bed normally when Angie goes. I'll read a bit, put the lights off and try to sleep. I'm back on my computer an hour and half or two hours later, not putting the light back on so Angie can sleep. Back in bed 4-5Am, waking up without alarm before 8.

I'm getting used to this. I used to think it was work stress related, but it seems nothing has changed since beginning of this year when I decided to let younger colleagues to do the travelling instead of me. I'm mostly home here in Leipzig or the other home in Solingen, I've reduced my working weeks to an average 55 hours, I'm exercising, eating quite healthy, and most important, feeling completely happy in my life.

Life goes on. Finding SF last summer gave at least some content to my lonely nights

Today I continued work on my chess program. All pieces are moving and with their movement rules, such as a pawn can move 2 spaces on it's first move, 1 space thereafter etc. Need to implement capture rules now, and then add a control panel to reset board etc and it's done :)

    Been busy to-day:

    1. Signed on that the JobCentre and did some general shopping.

    2. Dad accidently burnt-out a hedge cutter (very smoky) whilst trying to see what was wrong it. He is going another one anyway.

So to-day has gone quite quickly.

Today, was at a friends house at midnight removing some key loggers and Trojans from his PC, and we stayed up all night chatting and playing games (:

Since he was tired at 6am, i decided to drive home, got home, to remember the door has an alarm on it.

So i fed the dog, and dad heard that i was back, and let me in, slept for 3 hrs, mowed the lawn, hung the clothes on the line, all with no sleep.

    Now just relaxing (:
