Yeah, everything is OK already. I went to interview today, armed with lawyer, a copy of an email offer from the vendor which mentioned the make, model and price of the phones, the receipt I got when I paid them, and documents showing that I had both customs declared and insured the package for exactly the same amount I had paid for. Two and half hours later I was cleared from the charges and went directly to nearest pub

The vendor called me tonight telling he transfers my money back asap, and the customs officer told I'll get my Nokia back later this week if everything is OK i.e. they find out it, too, is not stolen (they confiscated it when I told I had bought it from the same vendor).

Interesting experience, but not something I would like to experience again.
Good news. I am so glad it is getting worked out.

This all sounds paltry compared to Kari's caper (glad to hear that it is almost all worked out), but I am going to post it anyway since if I don't vent I am going to go postal (pun intended). I know some may say that FedEx sux every day, and other will swear by their awesome service, but today... I HATE FedEx!!!

    Here's the background:

Today my new RAM comes in the mail... at least it had better.
    Same here... out for delivery!

Well, to be exact it is new replacement RAM since the system builder I ordered from put the wrong she-ite in when they put it together (they accidentally downgraded me when the order puller read my build sheet incorrectly).
I get home last night and find no package on the stoop, but I didn't have the chance to check the tracking page until ~10PM. When I do, I am greeted with a lovely message of "Package not due for delivery". WTF?!? So, because the builder chose the 3-day shipping option to ship a package 50 miles and it happened to get to the local distribution center "overnight" (since there was a weekend in between), somebody gets to decide that my package isn't worthy for delivery even though it was ALREADY ON THE TRUCK AND OUT FOR DELIVERY???

So, I gear up to call them this morning, all pressed and clean and with my nice face on, when I check the tracking site just to make sure I have the times right, just to find out that THEY DECIDED TO NOT EVEN ATTEMPT DELIVERY TODAY!!!

Needless to say, 5 minutes into the call I lost my cool with the CSR. First off, he lied to me and said that it wasn't even on the truck yesterday and that it was probably just scanned incorrectly... "You can tell because the times are so close together."

Ummm, OK... you guys tell me... are these times too close together to make you think it was just a scanning error?
    Code:
Apr 12, 2010 5:52 AM At dest sort facility
Apr 12, 2010 7:29 AM At local FedEx facility
Apr 12, 2010 9:59 AM On FedEx vehicle for delivery
Apr 12, 2010 6:24 PM At local FedEx facility
Apr 12, 2010 6:24 PM At local FedEx facility Package not due for delivery
Apr 12, 2010 8:14 PM At local FedEx facility Package not due for delivery
Apr 12, 2010 8:40 PM At local FedEx facility
So, I called him on his lie, and he told me that the FedEx drivers are allowed to make the determination if they are able to delivery all of their packages or not, giving priority to the ones that need to be delivered by that date. When I asked him why it never made its way on the truck today, he said the driver probably determined that he wouldn't get the chance to deliver it today. So, rather than even trying, he is just going to leave it at the depot since the SHIPPER DID NOT PAY FOR FASTER SHIPPING???

"Well, that's not the reason, see they have many packages that need to be delivered by today, and since this one doesn't technically have to be delivered til tomorrow, it is the driver's choice as to whether or not they take the package on the truck."

Me: Y'know this is really unacceptable. Just because the shipper didn't pay for faster service (you can see I was hammering away at this point... as I could tell it was getting to him), I don't see how your drivers get to decide who does and does not get their packages on time. If this were the Postal Service or UPS they would have just delivered the d@mn thing!

(After that last bit he really started to come unchained.) "When is the package promised to be delivered?!?" he growled at me. "What does it say?!? Tomorrow, right? So, the driver should attempt to deliver your package tomorrow if he has time."

Me: First of all, it doesn't say promised to be delivered, it says estimated delivery, and in case you didn't know, estimates are frequently moved up. UPS does it all the time. But, now you are telling me that I might not even get the package tomorrow?!? Are you going to hold it up since I am now calling you about it???

"I, uh, I did not, uh, say that..." and then he went on to say the same thing over again about the driver choosing to deliver or not.

Then he decided that I was not going to let him skate on this and he needed to get rid of me, so he tried to tell me that he was going to call dispatch and see if they could deliver the package today. Yeah, right! All trucks are out for delivery, like you are really going to have someone make a special trip when your guys already had the package with them and they wouldn't even stop as they were passing by. Give me a break! So, what did my phone call net me?

Apr 13, 2010 10:02 AM At local FedEx facility
Apr 13, 2010 10:02 AM At local FedEx facility Package not due for delivery
And the offer for me to take time off of work and drive to their distribution center to pick it up my d@mn self. Considering I am probably not going to have time tonight to swap the memory, that would be a wasted trip. No, I am going to make them earn the money that the shipper paid them. It just really frosts my cookies to get lied to on top of getting service this poor.

BTW, apparently since the date they keep sticking to is tomorrow, their system does not consider any of this to be an "Exception", even though it was already on the friggin' truck. So, I have not received any e-mail from them past the current status message that I received when I first entered my info on their site yesterday.

With my luck, this guy is going to get in contact with the driver to have him make the "determination" that my neighborhood is not safe enough to leave the package on the stoop even though it does not require signature, necessitating me to drive out there on Thursday to pick it up anyway.

Not my brightest moment. I usually handle myself a lot more professionally than this and usually get better results for it. Next time I'll just .

    Yeah, like that'll happen.

I went to my voluntary workplace as I usually do on Wednesday. Only to find out that in the I.T. room that one of the ceiling panels has come down and it is closed for Health & Safety reasons. The good news is it came down without injuring anyone, so no-one can sue us a lot of money. Also the repair work will start tomorrow, so it should be repaired next week.
