Now 74. Retired after a full career in the Aviation business. I can't claim 30 years of It experience, I didn't even know IT existed until I got roped in (no other "volunteers") to setting up our first Airport PC's (around about 1983/4) with, eventually, networking. A quick look at the first PC,s (Apple 2b) then into PC,s. Digital research - dos and then into the real stuff 286's!!
It's nice to hear there are other youngsters like Joan hanging in here. If you ever contemplate marrying a third time, give me a ring. My wife is "computer illiterate", and drives me crazy when she ask me to come and help with popups like " Your printer is out of paper"

Sorry you're out of luck staying with the one I have, even though at times he drives me up the wall I wouldn't swap him

Mind you your wife sounds a bit like him, I mean I had the XP running sweet without any problems for 4 years until I got my Vista one so gave him the XP and it was all nice and clean, not had it 5 minutes before he gets hit with the Antivirus fiasco

I'm still trying to work out how it came about that I'm the one that gets called whenever theres a problem, I mean the kids were doing computers at school and my DH was using them at work in the 80's whereas me never even touched one until late 1998

Hi Norm, Paintings in various mediums. Some fairly straight forward landscapes, but if I tell you that Kandinsky is my muse you will understand.
I guess you mean Vassily Kadinski. That's some serious artwork. I do mainly landscapes and teach beginners up to novice. My brother takes over then, he is a seriously good professional Landscape Artist. With me it's a hobby and relaxation. I'd like to see one of your paintings?

Although my experience in IT is fairly extensive it's a bit like saying I know all about T Model Fords. Any High School kid can quickly establish how little I know about the technical side of modern computing. The great thing about this board is it's like going back to school, with the best tutors money can buy, all prepared to suffer your ignorance and gently guide you. What I do think oldies like us can hopefully add to the mix is the one thing we have accumulated that doesn't get outdated, a little bit of the experience and accumulated wisdom that our advancing age should bring.

Yes. I know what you mean, Norm. My spare time interest, when young, because of budget limitations, used to be repairing my own cars - even to taking the top off the engine.
My kids don't want to know that I knew how to fix a 1959 Beetle.

    Hi,
Just broke 80 this year, spent 21 years at Aerospace in Engineering, dabbled with Amiga for the kids, but they lost interest, next foray was a PC, in 2000.

Needing something to pass the time, as I was housebound for nearly a year awaiting heart bypass.

Dabbled with Art, mainly oils, enough to get an A Cert.

Used to do a bit of car repairs and spraying, in the 60's, all in the past now.

Maybe not a computer whizz, but can get by, and theres always this site to put me on the right road.

I believe that's how Russians and Germans pronounce (swap the sound) of V's and W's.

Maybe we're the ones that pronounce them wrong....
