I'm a computer engineer for an automotive diagnostic support company. Being the motor industry the way it is atm we are kinda looking to expand on to other areas of IT come 2009... any ideas!?

My dad owned two computer shops here in Essex but he passed away over 20 years ago and the shops soon followed unfortunately! I'm only 24 myself so couldn't do anything about it then! Done three years in college with ICT networking and support, went on to work in a computer shop for a while with utterly shocking wages! then went on to do loads of jobs non-IT related until I got to where I am now.

I am now unemployed as of Monday Morning and very annoyed, this is the second year in a row to loos my job a thew weeks before Christmas, has nobody got any Morals these days.

Just because work drops off a little doesn't mean that it not going to get better again, I can't beleive it's happened to me again, I feel like I have some sort of curse.

What makes it worse is that I was really looking forward to my Christmas Break and enjoying my sons first birthday on the 28th. Now I have all this uncertainty and don't know if I should just take some time off and enjoy Christmas or if I should get another Job straight away and probably end up working through Christmas.

I'm thinking I should just have a break and try to enjoy myself and at least he is still paying me for this week and the 3 weeks Holiday pay so it could be worse.

sorry to hear that Mr Grim...... they could have kept you on till after christmas.

this credit crunch has really dealt employment a hefty blow!!
im down to 2 or 3 days a week myself, there is no work in the building trade at the moment, no one wants to spend the money

& they reckon its gonna get a lot worse in the new year...

Sorry to hear that Mr. Grim. It has certainly put a damper on my business. Jewelry is a luxury item and people aren't buying luxury items. I work for other stores and 2 of my best accounts are considering closing up after Christmas. I've been doing some odd jobs to help fill in. Cutting firewood and doing some finish carpentry.

I spent 16 years in the forces, after that I ended up staying here and have now been working for 17 years as a truck driver, not the most exciting of jobs but it is stable and it pays the bills

Sounds good Pooch, that's all that you need and all that I want at the end of the day.
