XP runs on my other comp with only 256MB of RAM so i think you should be fine with it.

Well, we were supposed to send my old laptop back when we got the replacement but we never did as we wanted to see if any problems came up on the new one. After about a year HP never asked for it and we still got both LOL, but the old one is def. fried now.

So, we're not on good terms with HP I don't think.

So, I guess I will go ahead and get 2x 1gb memory sticks, I've only got 512's in here now. Anyone think W7 RC1 will run fine on it? It's a AMD Turion Mobile 64, 1gb (well 2gb soon) RAM, nVidia Geforce XXX graphics (need to check on that), and a 120gb hard drive. Oh, and Broadcom BCM4311 wifi lol.
Virtually the same specs as my son's Acer which has been running 7 fine (with quick keys!) since last year. Why 2 sticks? It won't handle 2GB sticks?

Use that other lappy for PARTS!

It won't handle a single 2gb stick I don't think. I'm not that experienced with laptop hardware so I guess I'll go ask HP in a quick chat.

BTW, I just installed a slipstreamed XP Pro SP3 and it installed fine, but in the Device Manager under Other Devices, it's all yellow ?'s. So, now I need to either create a new slipstreamed disc with just my drivers on it or download em and I've got no spare Ethernet cable to do that with XD.

Anyone here good with slip streaming?

My laptop came with 2 512 sticks of ram. We replaced them with 2 1gb ea. $109.98 plus tax, total. Vista runs fast and very good on that machine .... oh and it orginally came with XP pro.

Anyone think this laptop would have Intel SATA drives in it? The only SATA drivers I can find are Intel lol

It's not the drives you need drivers for, it's the SATA controller. I'm assuming nVidia chipset given the rest of your hardware. You should really just put 7 on there right now, and bypass all that goofing around with XP. Wanna try it? PM me

I installed build 7000 on it a while back but it just ran slow. And it's only got 1gb of RAM right now so all that really is fast on it is XP -_-. Not to mention I couldn't find the drivers for it for W7 so it looked ugly.

Also, you can't slipstream Windows 7 yet can you?

Sure can. And 7077 prolly has the drivers already in it. What's your model number?
