It's a dv6000. But wouldn't it run even slower than XP with just 1gb of RAM? I'm all up for W7 on it but not at the cost of it being dead slow.

It was prolly dead slow cause you were using compatibility mode for most of your drivers -- no SATA, graphics etc., wouldn't take long to just give it a try and see huh? There have been quite a few folks with single GB of RAM reporting quick performance.

Make sure this is not happening first or that HP already replaced it:

I guess I could try it. I'll use my 7077 64 bit dvd, since the laptop is 64 bit XD.

But the thing is, I honestly do not like the interface of W7, no offense to you all. I LOVE the classic theme that XP has and just can't seem to get used to the W7 interface.

I just went to reboot the laptop and felt it and almost burned my hands, wtf?!

It never did that while it was on warranty but now it's like freaken overheating or something. I touch the mouse pad and it's burning hot, same for the keyboard area and wrist stops o.O

Maybe I should just throw this POS laptop out -_-

Turn it off, read the above link, get an OS on there w/ ACPI drivers so that fan works. Don't use x64 at all -- I got x86 7077 it uses half as much memory and will be lots faster on that hardware regardless of the CPU's 64-bit capability

    The classic start menu to?

I might just forget this as the laptop seems to get way to hot. This happened with my first one and they sent this as a replacement. To bad it's only started happening just after the warranty was up -_-

So I'm guessing build 7077 has the ACPI drivers? That's why the laptop is getting super hot or whatever?

Raise the laptop so that it has a cool air flow underneath .... it sounds like it's over heating
