Apple -- actually it was an Englishman (Jonathan Ive)

Hi there
one thing people always say about Apple for - whatever they think of the technical content - is the sleek design of their products and this is invariably given a good review irrespective of the actual technical merit of the device in question.

I think the origin of the Internet is well known -- but how many people realize that it was actually an Englishman Jonathan Ive who designed the Iphone.

Steve jobs etc was of course responsible for the computing and technical side of the business bit it's always amazing how people BEHIND the design are often forgotten.

I believe in another era during WWII another Englishman named Flowers who worked as a "Post Office" engineer in Dollis Hill near London laid the foundation for building electronic switching units "Colossus" for decoding the Enigma machine - without this work the early computers could not have been built.

Often seems a pity that these people never get the recognition they deserve.
