    Getting the priorities right!

On 6th May In the UK we are to have a general election to vote in the great and the good who will look after us for the next four years or so. Pretty important stuff you might think!
I am privileged to live in the original quaint old Cornish town of Helston. Here on the 8th May every year for at least the last 500 years we hold the annual Flora Day. This is a relic of a pagan festival welcoming the new summer. The whole town is decorated with bluebells and greenery, we have special dispensation to pick the wild flowers once a year for Flora Day. They are a protected species everywhere else in the country. The town's population grows threefold for the day. All Helstonians who now live away make a special effort to be home on this special day.
A recent survey of 500 residents found that when asked the question. What is the most important, The General Election or Flora Day? 496 replied Flora Day, three were found NOT to be residents, they were just pretending and the 500th person has been humanely destroyed as being of unsound mind, body and spirit.
That's what getting the priorities right means.

So what do you think is responsible for the result of that survey? Ignorance (of the importance of elections) or apathy (provincialism (Helstonianism), "this country has gone to the dogs" mindset etc.)?
