Having multiple installations (plus each installation having a different A/V) for cross scanning is definitely handy.

The only downside to running an A/V from another install is that it won't boot scan or do a 'currently loaded in memory' scan.

77 objects? I would have scrapped that installation too

Do you know how you were infected?

Yeah, while installing I went out to Microsoft, and was redirected to a different site (maybe I spelled it wrong). That and the bogus defender gave me a clue.

Now Im at the point where I cant open task manager, I cant go to any AV web site, and its just launching more and more processes.

I finally had a brain storm. Boot from the other partition and run a virus scan from that partition to the infected one.

After deleting, and removing 77 objects I had a clean (clean) partition.

Not feeling comfortable I re-formatted anyway.. Total time to back online cleanly was about 2 hours.

Always helps to have a win 7 installed on a USB stick. 22 minutes to install.

So be careful

Wow, Ken. That certainly testifies to the worth of boot disks, boot sticks and images. I'm sure glad you were able to get it cleaned up.

It infected every browser on my system, such that if launched it would spawn more viral processes. Started in IE, then firefox, then chrome.
