Ms Technet Subscription expiry date confusion

    Hi all
I took out an agreement (subscription) in JUNE last year --( Expiry date june 4 -- in European date format 04/06/2010).

I get a letter in APRIL (and a few follow ups) saying my subscription is about to expire -- please renew. Excpiry 04/06 which they seem to think is 6th of APRIL rather than 4th June.

There's also a PROMO code -- I can renew for around 175 EUR.

I don't mind renewing but I don't need reminding 2 full months before expiry -- I've also had at least 5 LETTERS from MS as well.

Now this to me seems a total waste of postage and paper - just multiply this by several HUNDRED THOUSAND times - and this is just TOTAL money down the drain.

The waste of money would probably be sufficient to significantly reduce Windows 7 licensing costs all round.

    Cheers

I got my renewal also about 2-3 monthe before expire (though only one so far).

I I don't think thatthey think you are going to expire 2 months early, they really do send out the notices that far in advance.

Network solutions is even worse :P

    jimbo,
Can you share the PROMO code, is it just for Europe, etc., etc.?
It's hard to find promos for renewals, mainly they are for new subscriptions.

Mine expires June 7th. I've already gotten 1 notice from MS, but no promo code. The only promo codes I've seen are for NEW accounts, not renewals.

    Hi there
I definitely got a PROMO code in mine -- it says CALL Technet subscription centre to pay by credit card or ONLINE and use PROMO CODE TDMXXX - yields 25% off normal subscription.

The Letter is from Microsoft Technet Information centre at Friedrich-Menzefricke-Str 16-18 D-3775 Versmold Germany.

It also mentions that discount ONLY applies to ON TIME (note not ON LINE !!) renewals so the discount DEFINITELY is for a renewal -- so not a NEW subscription.

I'm not sure I can quote the XXX on a public web site -- but I've definitely got a 25% discount on renewal -- which I'm going to do -- W7 2008 server as well as the Office 2010 products make this a worthwhile benefit apart from all the other stuff -- I'm still using W2K3 Server and various versions of Windows 7 as well.

Perhaps the discount is only applicable to particular countries in Europe.

(My subscription is payable in EUR and I got the original promo code from Iceland).

    Cheers

I've had my TechNet subscription for less than a month now, and the website has been down, or experiencing difficulty WAY more than it's been trouble-free so far. I'm glad I got it as a gift, or I would be livid with them.

And yes, I agree that it's a waste of postage to send you all those notices. I hope they used recycled paper. I'm not one of those recycle nuts, but I'm starting to think along the same lines as them. We should start being less wasteful with our paper products. It's economically smart, as well as environmentally, to recycle paper. Wow, I can't believe I'm hopping on the "green" bandwagon now....LOL

My TechNet was messed up too. They think I am in the UK for some reason, maybe because US and UK are close in pull-down menus???, anyway never could get it fixed. My dates are Day-Month-Year and I have a hard time reading that sometimes. I wish the world would go to YYYY-MM-DD for everything. 2010-04-21 easy and no mistakes. - Just my two cents (pence). :)

Star, did you have any problems downloading software? I did for the first two weeks. They finally got it straightened out after deleting my account, and then starting a whole new one. After a lengthy telephone call of course. I guess they have been having problems with not only hackers, but people who get accounts assuming someone elses identity, and credit card number. Can you believe that? People are stealing identities to get a TechNet subscription....my God, what IS this world coming to? A friggin' sespool of crime apparently!

As sad as it is to say, the world has always been this way - the only real difference are the methods used and the amount of notice taken

As for the Technet renewal, I got a reminder and renewal request with NO promo code early this month for my 30/6/2010 exp date.

Talk to me when you can offer a substantial discount for the horrid speeds and I might be interested in re-subscribing. Otherwise...

Yes I have had many issues downloading, especailly from Windows 7. I have a laptop with Windows XP on it and everything download correctly. For the most part things have been good lately. Fingers Crossed.
