I think it's just the Earth getting things back in line again. More seismic activity and the occasional volcano can lower the average temperature a few degrees. Not such a bad thing when the average temperature is "supposedly" getting warmer.

Unfortunately.... Us people stand in the way, and casualties result. The earth has ben doing this long before we showed up. We were lucky to go through a fairly innactive period of late.
