Microsoft activated its disaster response protocol to monitor the situation in Japan and other areas on tsunami warning alert, and offer support as appropriate. See the full article at Community Involvement: Disaster Response – Corporate Citizenship.

If you have a Twitter account, you can help support Japan. Just Retweet: Twitter and Bing will donate $1 up to $100K.

Google setup their Person Finder yesterday for people looking for friends and family if they can't get in contact. Seems to be working for quite a few people, with people leaving messages on saying they're okay/alive for people who might be searching for them to see.

And that whirlpool that formed was insane. I didn't even think they existed

I hear about it on Friday morning (U.S.). There are only two of us that work on Fridays, and I think we spend at least half the day listening to the radio and watching news on our phones. Terrible....I just can't imagine....

Earthquake in Northern California
I was awoken by a significant earthquake at 3:20AM this morning. It was a pretty good rolling, then a few strong jolts, maybe 15 seconds. No damage here, just an exciting ride. But based on the strength, and not knowing where the epicenter was, it occurred to me it could be a bad quake somewhere if...

Oklahoma Earthquake?
I was quite surprised that ~20 minutes ago, that my apartment started shaking for a few moments. While some Californians would find this too common to comment, it is very rare here. I have NEVER felt an earthquake here before, even though Googling, I found that there are a few minor earthquakes...

What is a thread? (On a CPU)
I've always wanted to know exactly what a thread is. How does a thread differ from a core? Answer in anyway you want, even if it's a link to a webpage that explains it :)
