I'm more or less concentrating on news about the power plant.

One Chernobyl was enough.

I heard that it was soo bad, that it sped the Earth up by one nano second. Making the World's day a bit shorted. o.o

It appears some people got the wrong impression of Bing's offer, Bing Tweet:

We apologize the tweet was negatively perceived. Intent was to provide an easy way for people to help Japan. We have donated $100K.
If you haven't seen these images yet, definitely check them out. They are horrifically amazing. Horrific because of the obvious devastation. Amazing because of what technology can show us.

Truly shocking. As a geologist I understand and appreciate the dynamic nature of our planet, but the scale of devastation is something that is hard to comprehend.

In all, the earthquake shifted the axis of the Earth by 24 centimeters, the mainland of Japan by 2.4 meters, and slowed down the rotation of the Earth by about six microseconds.

All in all, I'm not too worried if these nuclear plants go belly up. That it took them this long to do so is in my book a great booster in the confidence of the quality of design that goes into these things now-in-days.

While worrying wouldn't help or solve anything, the quality of design would make no difference, if it did melt down. That it didn't had much more to do with Providence than design. That is not to say that design isn't important, because poor design obviously increases the odds of melt down, but no amount of design is fail-safe.

Earthquake in Northern California
I was awoken by a significant earthquake at 3:20AM this morning. It was a pretty good rolling, then a few strong jolts, maybe 15 seconds. No damage here, just an exciting ride. But based on the strength, and not knowing where the epicenter was, it occurred to me it could be a bad quake somewhere if...

Oklahoma Earthquake?
