I hate social networking sites, (specifically MySpace).
I maintain a facebook just for college and then business networking. Minimal info is posted.

FB is a great place to have contact with famileys and friends. thouh... i prefer useing my phone or better than that (meet eachother in real) :P

i used to use facebook, until it got stupid, with all the games, apps and "sending hugs" and the like, now i dont touch it, although the account is still active

I use facebook....it's for keeping in touch with old friends mostly. Just because others get into the games and silliness...does not mean that you must do it also.
But I'm quite selective to my friends list...so unless I know you personally and feel a need to stay in touch, I won't add your account.

Two words: Mafia Wars.
Mafia Wars is the devil. Breaking the MW cycle was almost as difficult as stopping the nicotine habit.
Note: Self plugging here. I've been smoke-free for over a year now. Didn't use any gimmicks, quit cold turkey.
