Well for me, I have a full time job and have been working professionally for 13 years. It takes me some time to save up my pennies after mortgages, car payments, insurance, groceries, gas, daycare, etc. And my wife works full time as that helps cover the bills.

Which is why it's not wise to add up the totals. It hurts a lot less when kept as piecemeal amounts:)

It's also a matter of priorities. A high performance machine is worth more to some people than others.
Very true.

Going without certain things and not having any kids also helps. Having an understanding and tolerant girlfriend is also beneficial.

Windows 10 Tech Preview 9926 x64

For the system in my cost me $685 to build it originally, but I have upgraded the mobo, CPU and graphics card since then. My guess would be around $1300...with more money going into it this week.

Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

$45 USD for my entire system. That $55 going to a gigabyte of RAM. The rest was free.

Currently working on a system that might run me about ~$2000 USD if I ever get the rest of the money I need. :|

So I think I am looking at the right parts, please tell me if I am wrong. I am more concerned about the ram and the power supply being compatible with the motherboard. Also how many watts should I get my power supply? <a href=" - Intel Core i3-2100 Sandy Bridge 3.1GHz LGA 1155 65W...

A little fun computer building
I was wondering about power supplies and SLI. First off, My power supply was 50 watts more than my last, but apparently wasn't SLI ready, so I have a single graphics card stuck to the board (Nvidia 460 single Gig). Hasn't done as well as I had hoped. So I'm thinking you have to buy power supplies...

Considering building a computer
This seemed like a good place to post. I was thinking about upgrading my current desktop (Dell XPS 8100) to sandy bridge and a few other things, but then I thought it would be more fun to build a custom computer. I have never done this, so I will ask noobish questions. I do a lot of video editing...

Building a computer
I toasted one of my computer so I figure I'll take the old 5 year old case and put a i3 CPU which I think is better than my E6550 Intel. I was going to build a i5 or i7 but I'm not sure about the case, if I should get a new one or not. If I should get a new case then I'll go with a i5. It's been 3...
