Ubuntu...pssh!! Windows....pssh.... o.O

To all of those Windows fans..(most people here) and also to all of those Ubuntu/Linux distros fans here - i recommend Kubuntu. Its the BOMB!!!!
It's a mix of Ubuntu/windows - very well organized and everything :P

And its very easy to use compared to other Linux distros (argh red hat!)

Never cared for KDE style desktops. Always preferred Gnome.

I've tried Kubuntu before but still, have always preferred Ubuntu (10.04 is great!).

And there is the beauty of Linux...if you like it one way...you can use one type and if you like it another way you can go a different way. And if you don't like either, you can change, customize and try lots of other options along the way.

Personally, I've never cared for KDE either.

But Kubuntu 10.04 is same speed - just different look :) I just love the gui more - and everything works fine as in Gnome :)

Linux Mint is also great. It's built on Ubuntu, but it comes with all proprietary codecs included, has its own software center with reviews and screenshots (and an online catalog as well with direct downloads), and regular releases that come out at the same time as Ubuntu's. It has a Gnome interface, but it opts for one bar on the bottom (you can add a second) and a black and green theme. I would really recommend you check it out.

Never argued the speed differences. I was more or less stating I 'have' tried Kubuntu but end up reverting back to Ubuntu just because I prefer Gnome.

KDE has a good concept, but right now its not something I'd like to use.

No matter which version you install, you can download the different interface packages through Synaptic. So if you install plain Ubuntu, you can go into Synaptic and install the KDE package, and then you'll be able to choose which you want to use when you log in.

The beauty of Linux ecosystem... If you like Kubuntu but alredy downloaded Ubuntu, open package manager - install KDE, DONE... FYI you can make any distro to look and behave like another distro. I personally like OpenSUSE, and I never cared about X/Desktop managers. Either way, Ubuntu is a good distro overall.
