2010 Ice Hockey Championship, May 7th to 23rd, Germany

After two days, we already have two big surprises. First, Germany won USA in opening game 2 - 1, in front of world record 77,000 public (Germany defeat U.S. in front of record crowd | Reuters).

And then, a day later, my dear native Finland lost to Denmark, 1 goal against Danes 4 goals (Denmark upsets Finland at World Hockey Championship). First time ever Denmark (best placement 10th in WC 2007) defeat Finland (worst placement ever 8th). Ten last games 51 - 8 to Finland!

Finland, USA, Germany and Denmark are playing in the Group D in preliminary round. These two surprises mean, that the USA - Finland game on Wednesday the 12th can decide which of the two teams qualifies to the next round, leaving one of the top 4 ranked teams out.

Shocking start! Chatting with our resident Danish GFX-guru Sergio before the game I told him my guess is my Finland beats his Denmark 7 - 2. How wrong I was!

I'm almost panicking. Half an hour to go to Finland - USA game. The Danes, a team nobody believed, won Americans on overtime day before yesterday, but lost today to Germany. Because of this, it's a sudden death situation: One of the top 4 teams, Finland or USA, is going to end games playing on relegation round.

Only the winner survives. Game starts 8:15 PM Central European Time, in 25 minutes, and I'm nervous...
