When I say locked down, I mean
1). Grey drab background that you cannot change
2). it's apple's way or apple's way.
3). So much of OS X is built upon a Free BSD backend..but very few things that you can modify, tweak or change in the Nix equivalent can be manipulated on a mac.

I understand how to use icons and touch them. What I mean is that when something doesn't work as expected, it's hard for me to find the various setup/configuration options to change what doesn't seem to work. So, when I have my wife's phone and I am trying to get something working, often times, I just hand it back to her and do what needs done on my Blackberry storm...as I know where stuff is and it just makes more sense to me.

Well, I would never refer to my portable music playback devices as iPod's....because they aren't.

This bugs me to no end......because "iPod" has become the stereotype for the portable music player, everyone assumes that I have "iPods". I then have to say," no, it's not an iPod."

I can say, however, "it's not an iPod, it's a Walkman".....at least for two out of three of my MP3 players.

May I just say I never used the word iPod.

I know several people who don't have iPods but have Walkman or Android baded music players instead... of course they are the ones who broke their iPods but that's beside the point.

As long as they don't call it an MP3 player, that was the only criteria.

This could have had serious implifications and not just because you thought I implied iPod .

When I am leaving the house and forget my Creative Labs zen Vision M, I will say, " I forgot my mp3 player, hold on a second". So, yes..I use the term MP3 player.

I suppose "I forgot my Creative Labs zen Vision M" would be a bit of a mouthful and "I forgot my Zen" sounds like your a miniature gardener in a rush .

Fair point.

I didn't mean to imply that you had said iPod.....I was just giving the example of what has happened with me. I do use the term "mp3 player" though, if I am referencing them to someone who obviously knows or cares nothing about them though(like older relatives).

There is in my phone.

And if I leave the house without my phone I say meh I couldn't have used it anyway (my local area has no coverage but there's a sopping great mast sitting idle half a mile down stream in the forest!!)

So I guess you're gonna love Apple when OS 4 comes out and lets you change the background? Not being able to change the background is a very lame excuse to hate a company, really.

I've never stated that I hate Apple...I just choose to not have Apple products. In evaluating Apple products, I have reached the conclusion that they aren't worth it to me. I only ventured a guess for the above person who stated they HATE Apple.

Apple computers have never been appealing to me because
1). High cost
2). Very few hardware choices to pick from
3). System is locked down and not very customizable.
4). I don't like the integrated computer/monitor design of the iMac, cannot afford a Mac Pro Desktop and don't really want another notebook

My phone choice is super easy...my employer pays for it...so it's a blackberry for me. No cost=best plan ever.
