The full Calculus course was required for an SE degree way back when.
It was tough because of the innumerable equations you have to remember. The concepts were rather easy, and I knew WHAT equation I needed I just couldn't ever remember the actual formula.
I mean when your in a full engineering job working for NASA, are you really going to rely on your college memory for an equation or are you going to go look it up in the book?
Calculus is such an enourmous crash course in higher math I really see no point in making it completely closed book. Access to the raw equations at least should be allowed. I'd have gotten through it a lot easier. (The Chinese native exchange professor didn't make calc 2 any easier too! The drave-tive, you know what drave-tive is don you?")
I still have my calc book today 25 years later and when I need to look something up .. I LOOK IT UP! :) I don't think anyone can remember the 150+ formulas you need to learn much further than the last exam of the series...
