    Let's all agree to disagree!

What happens with ISP/Broadband Internet access in one country may or may not work in another country.
Just be thankful we have Broadband Internet access and are able to discuss our differences here in this forum.
You are completely right. The two points of view are basically those of Europe and the US. The first tending towards a social welfare type of government, where mandatory internet access and price control are a natural thing. I doubt many companies will go out of business, the government will rescue them if it happens. Now, check how much the individuals pay in taxes... that is just their tax money coming back to them.
In the US we are used to a capitalist / market driven economy. You buy what you can (or what someone agrees to finance) and the companies that are not efficient do not survive (OK, that is not a general rule, but it works in many cases). Instead of taxes being paid to the government which decides how to spread it, the money goes directly into the economy. The difference between the tip and the bottom of the wealth pyramid is much larger though.
In short, different systems for different realities. There is no better or worse, it all depends
I disagree with that last statement. Europe is collapsing because the gov't is simply not designed to support the entire economy.

Since this topic is being discussed elsewhere ....

Today I discovered that my video card drivers hadn't been updated since April ...

My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She's 97 today and we don't know where the hell she is.

One of my good friends turns 50 today. He is maybe the most eccentric person I know, almost stereotypical people shy woman hater top intelligent scientist. The birthday "party", one of the reasons I'm now here in Solingen in western Germany, is typical for him, something only he could have.

He has invited 9 friends, all men, to have a lunch with him in a beautiful old medieval castle here nearby. A bus picks up most of the group plus him from our village market square 12:10PM, three guys are picked up along the short trip to castle, lunch starts at 12:30PM, bus back to our village leaves 1:30PM leaving one hour for the party and lunch. Latest at 1:50PM we are back and this years party is over.

All guests were asked to bring absolutely no presents, instead we should bring a proof of a donation to charity. Which charity and how much can each and everyone self decide. Without this proof you are no longer welcome.

He's a nice guy, a very interesting personality, so of course I'm participating. Leaving in 5 minutes, see you later.

BTW, this is the castle, Schloß Burg (letter ß = ss):

And this is how you go there from the parking place:

I went to the jobcentre to-day to sign-on as usual. On the way there I fell over the curb a gazed my right hand a bit near the wrist. I have washed it and just put some antiseptic cream on it, so I'll be OK. Now I am going to restore my PC back to Windows Vista, but I am staying on these forums.
