    M'Lady;

    Here is a screen shot of the "Safe Mode". You get to "Safe Mode" by tapping the F8 key while booting. It sounded like, from your eailer description, the SB tech had you attempt the "Last Known Good Configuration" utility. If it works, it will restore XP to a point before you removed any programs. If it was already tried and / or did not work, then reinstalling XP may be your only option.

    Robert hi.. No dear your clip is much better than what I saw with that sbc tech guy.. there were few options to choose from..
    I saw nothing about a restore.... Thank you very much.:)

    Whilst MLPT is resting what say we let just one member guide her through the next part. There have been so many conflicting ideas here she is bound to get a bit confused and then things will get worse for her. May I bodly suggest Tews takes it on if he agrees?

    That's a very good suggestion.

    Ive been working with LPT via PM, and we are making great progress.. She has downloaded and burned an Ubuntu CD and we will begin recovering her files later on today.. Keep in mind that she has NEVER done anything like this in the past, and is doing a superb job... we'll have her desktop back up and running in no time!

    Exactly why I made the suggestion. I'm sure she was getting confused as by some of the posts others were getting confused too!
    Hope all goes well. IMHO she could not be in better hands. Understanding other members levels of experience is more than half the battle.

    Same here and I think that was a good suggestion Mitchell, I've been following the thread and at times was getting a bit muddled, mind you that's not hard

    I've done nothing like it so think she's doing a good job I know if it was me I'd need it spelt out in simple language, I mean I know us women are pretty good at things but there are times when technology can get the better of us

    Joan, it is not just women. Technology can get the best of a whole lot of people. :)
