Same here and I think that was a good suggestion Mitchell, I've been following the thread and at times was getting a bit muddled, mind you that's not hard

I've done nothing like it so think she's doing a good job I know if it was me I'd need it spelt out in simple language, I mean I know us women are pretty good at things but there are times when technology can get the better of us
I get cornfused everyday! So you are not alone Joan!
Just look at all the different forums and see the problems and questions they have.

Let me bring you up on my Windows XP desktop..MESS

Today Tom came to help be gain.. we started the process of .. ubuntu.. that... went really well.. we stopped for lunch .
I wasn't sure I felt confident to do the installing of Windows XP.. with all the Sp 1..2 3.. along with all the updates.. and more ..
So I 'm going to take my tower to my Tech guy that had to work on this when I first made a mess... not like this but non-the less a mess. to finish this for me.. We'll have to see if all is lost.. it may well be..

Tom was a dream to work with.. always so very helpful and very patient.. with me the whole way. he was always so very encouraging. all along the way !!!
I'm forever greatful for his help on this.. If you ever need help .. he is the guy you need to talk to if you have this kind of of probem !!!!
    Much thanks
    LPt
ps.. thank you everyone for watching and contributing to this thread.. see you on the boards !!!

Hi BKF.. I didn't feel secure trying to do all that was required to get my pc back to normal again..all the SP1 ..2..... 3 in fact.. IE 7... and a ton of updates..

I count on that old thing everyday... this new Acer laptop is ok ...for when away from home.. just not for daily use... plus the XP has a big nice screen..
even tho this is a 17" screen on this Acer laptop.
    Thanks for your reply.:)

Very good, M'Lady; and think of all you have learned. The installation is not hard; it is just tedious.

Your notebook will still work with tower unpluged from router.

    What repairs have you tried?
theog.. hi.. I un-plugged it this afternoon.. then took the ethernet cable..plugged it into my Acer Laptop Windows 7 .. with the router .. all is working great..
I do see a new connection (un-identified network ) on my Home Network..just below my Home Network with a bench...( Public ).. to be used when I'm away from home.. it has no name..I wanted to save my battery.. I have the laptop on Wi Fi ..when away from home.
It's actually my sbcglobal .. dsl connection to the XP tower... that's going to the tech shop tomorrow.. to get re-installed with Windows XP..I was ready to do that today.. however I didn't feel secure doing it.. so thought better.. to get it back like it was..
Thank you for your concern and help.:)
