I usually check out my favorite retail spots for their best deals on Sale

Then I decide how much I want to spend on this particular built & how it will be used.

The best thing about building a desktop computer, you always have the option to change different components

I've found a card that I believe will suit me well for what I'm wanting to do, however how do I know if it is compatible with my motherboard? What if I buy it and it doesn't work with my machine? You can view the card here. FLaTLiN3D

While inexpensive, it's not going to give you decent gaming performance. That would be a great pick for an htpc; not for a gaming box.

Mostly, you'd want to look to see if your MB will have PCIe 2.0 x16 slot available and you should be fine.

Here's some contact info for Palit:

Hi. Do you mean compatible with the board you have or the one you intend to get?

If you are talking about the K8M800 you have then no, it's not compatible.
It is an Nvidia card and would be compatible with a motherboard with an Nvidia chipset. What board are you considering?

I don't think that's quite right. He could run ATI or Nvidia otherwise, it implies he'd have to find a video card with a VIA chipset

If you disabled your onboard video you should be able to run that card. Unfortunately, your sig board doesn't have PCIe connections, so that's why that option is out. Regardless, I suspect your speaking in reference to a new MB correct?

Yes, video cards aren't designed to be chipset specific; rather, they're designed to fit a universal standard: the pci-e bus. That's why an ATI card works on AMD chipsets, Intel chipset, and even on nVidia chipsets. The same is true for nVidia cards; they'll work the same on any chipset that has a pci-e bus. Any difference in performance is going to be minor and is a function of chipset's ability, and not the card.

I've ran an Nvidia on this motherboard before.... It was only a 4MB card but still, it was Nvidia. I wasn't asking if it was a good quality card, I realize that it's not very good, but it would do well with what I'm trying to do at the moment. The only game I really play right now is Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. I will upgrade in time when I begin to play games with higher demands. I was simply wondering if it would work with my motherboard. There are slots open for it on the motherboard, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it is compatible, does it? FLaTLiN3D Edit: Also, I don't know what the problem is, but I'm simply going to post it here. Firefox doesn't seem to display SevenForums correctly anymore. It seems to be the only website being effected, other than the occasional dead Google link. Take a look at this picture. I zoomed out so you could see more. One more thing, what exactly is a "Low profile adapter"? What does it do if you make a video card "low profile"?
