This stirring tale of overcoming the loss of a limb is allegedly backed by The Band in the recording studio.
Note that, now he's regained his confidence through music, he hopes to find "a gurl, a real gurl" to share his life with. That kind of begs the question
Just thinking about The Band makes me want to hear them. Their brown album is definitely up there in my top ten.

They set up in the doorway of a coffee shop at the Sunset Junction Street Fair here in LA and got bigger crowds than either stage the year when local boys Red Hot Chili Peppers headlined. Had a one-off hit "Still In Hollywood" in the clubs that year and then got a big boost from the Pump Up the Volume compilation, later Natural Born Killers soundtrack.
Here is mislabeled "Still in Hollywood" which set wave clubs in a frenzy around late 80's:
