Like Nigel, I dislike Apple's marketing, too. But it's effective, even making competitors nervous.

Just today the media in my native Finland, home of Nokia, is writing about an Apple iPhone keynote video where Apple's Scott Forstall "accidentally" uses Nokia's old slogan in he's speech, saying "It's all about connecting people". (An example of those articles, surfaced today in Finland here. In Finnish )

I don't hate them, but I have an iPhone that I really enjoy and don't need a bigger one that I can't fit in my pocket or make calls on. Plus for the same price I can pick up a laptop that can actually do what the iPad can do and more, as well as get some actual work done!

I have Kindle app on my phone, and if I really want to read a book.....I will buy the book :) If I have to carry a back pack to carry an iPad then I have room for a laptop and a couple of real life turn the page books.

I agree with everyone here, they have clever marketing and alot of people will buy it simply cause it is an Apple product

I don't hate it at all. I think it is really really cool, and hope it spawns a new market (tablet TOUCH computers).

What makes me dislike it (strongly) is that APPLE made it. A more proprietary brand you cannot find (even more so than MS).
Now, if someone had come up with a really nice touch tablet computer and put a specialized LINUX os on it, I would jump on it.

Since it is Apple, it is not worth buying as it is crippled beyond ALL redemption.

I can definitely see this lime of thought. I got one as a gift, and ended up upgrading to the 3G...it's really functional for as much as I'm on the road. I've had to eat my words a bit on how much I despise apple stuff over how functional I've found this to be.

I get frustrated now with emetic apple hate. The app store is fluid and neat IMO

I might as well be the oddball...

If you know me, have read my posts, etc, you should know that I am a staunch Microsoft supporter and a dedicated opponent of Apple. The iPhone and the iPad are good enough to get me hooked on them, and that is saying something, as normally I reject Apple products without a second thought.

There is nothing I hate more than talking to people who don't want to listen, so I'm only going to put up a highly detailed explanation if someone asks me for it. For now, I'll just say that IMO the iPad is great, and anyone on the fence should be sure to hear BOTH sides of the debate before making a decision.

I'd like to see what he comes up with as well. The iPad is yet another over-priced/under-performed product from Apple purchased by people as a status symbol, nothing more. I'll wait until the new Windows 7 tablets are out and grab one. The list of things the iPad can't do is too long for it to be of any real use to me.

I would still rather have a linux based OS on a tablet (sort of a hyrbid between windows and the iphone os, but touch based)
